Is It All Water Under The Bridge Between Chennai and Ravindra Jadeja?
Ravindra Jadeja has been an integral part of the Indian T20 League since the inaugural season in 2008. He was called the ‘rockstar’ by Shane Warne and he played a pivotal part in helping Rajasthan win the 1st season in 2008. He started making waves in the Indian T20 League when he was bought by the Mahendra Singh Dhoni-led Chennai side.
Under MS Dhoni, Jadeja got a free hand at Chennai and became a much-improved all-rounder. He also started batting up the order and made more runs for the side. He was soon played as a floater and a middle-order batter, where he came up with many vital knocks for the Chennai side in the Indian T20 League.
In the last edition of the Indian T20 League, Ravindra Jadeja was handed the reigns of the captaincy for the Chennai side in the Indian T20 League. However, it was not at all smooth sailing as it was not easy for him to work under the shadow of MS Dhoni. He had to endure a very harsh campaign for Chennai as they had one of their worst seasons in the Indian T20 League.
The rift between Chennai and Ravindra Jadeja
The Chennai side lost 10 games and only won four as they ended up in the 9th position on the points table. Halfway through the season, the all-rounder was snubbed off the captaincy and the reigns were handed back to MS Dhoni but it did not make a significant difference to Chennai’s campaign in the end.
Ravindra Jadeja was given the bitter end of the stick as he was not played in the eleven in some of Chennai’s games. He apparently faked having an injury at the instruction of the franchise. The way the captaincy was taken away from him did not please him one bit and it appeared that there were cracks between Chennai and Jadeja. According to reports, that is all put behind now and Jadeja will continue to stay in Chennai.
