India just finished a home T20I series against South Africa as the series ended at a scoreline of 2-2. The final match of the series got washed away and hence, the series ended at a stalemate. In the absence of Rohit Sharma and KL Rahul, Rishabh Pant was given the responsibility to lead the side in the series.

Ishan Kishan was one of the top performers of that series as he managed to give a good start to the Team while opening the innings. He scored 206 runs in five matches at an average of 41.20 including two fifties. This stellar performance against the Proteas did not go wasted as he had a jump in his worldwide ranking in T20I ranking for batters.

Ishan Kishan is now the highest-ranked Indian batter

In the recently updated ranking table for T20I batters, Ishan Kishan had found the sixth position. Even, it showed that he is now the highest-ranked Indian batter on that list. After being roped for whooping money of Rs. 15.25 Crore by the Mumbai franchise, everyone was expecting a cracking season from him. However, Mumbai ended the season in the last position in this year’s Indian T20 League.

But, he completely failed to repay them as per his expectations. He scored 418 runs in 14 innings at an average of 32.15. His strike rate was the main issue as he managed only 120.11. Hence, this South Africa series was a litmus test for him.

Now, he will look to continue his impressive run for the Indian side as India is scheduled to play a two-match T20I series against Ireland, on 26 June and 28 June 2022. This series will be another test for him as the preparation for the mega event later this year in Australia.
