‘Isse zyada to KL Rahul leta hai dot ball khelne ke’ – Fans react as Apex Cricket Council releases prize money for Test Championship winners
For both sides, the Australia-India Test Championship Final in 2023 will be very motivating since the winners would be getting $1.6 million in prize money in addition to the ultimate accolade in the longest format of the game. The losers will receive $800,000 each. The Oval in London will host the final game from June 7 to June 11, with June 12 serving as a reserve day. The tournament’s total purse of $3.8 million is the same as that of the championship’s first iteration, the Test Championship 2019–21.
In addition to the dazzling Mace, the New Zealand team, captained by Kane Williamson, received $1.6 million in Southampton two years ago after defeating India by eight wickets in the final. Each of the nine Test Championship 2021–2023 competitors will get a portion of the $3.8 million prize pool. By ending third in the Test Championship 2021–23 rankings, South Africa has won $450,000.
Indian players left for England for WTC Finals
With an aggressive playing style, England, which had a late comeback in the two-year cycle, finished fourth and received a $350,000 prize. After losing the series in New Zealand, Sri Lanka, which was in contention to play in the championship, slipped to fifth position. Their prize money allotment is $200,000 in total. New Zealand, Pakistan, the West Indies, and Bangladesh, who finished sixth through ninth, will each get $100,000.
Along with the support staff, led by coach Rahu Dravid, the first group of Indian players, including Axar Patel, Shardul Thakur, and Umesh Yadav, have already arrived in England. The Indian cricket team’s first practice took place on Thursday, with Dravid, batting coach Vikram Rathour, and trainer Soham Desai keeping a close watch.
Following the conclusion of IPL 2023, the remaining Indian cricketers, including captain Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, are scheduled to go to England. Cheteshwar Pujara has been playing County Cricket in England for the past two weeks. India will have a second opportunity to clinch the Test mace in as many editions with this attempt. Under Kohli’s captaincy, they lost to New Zealand in the championship game of the previous season.
