Australia won their second game of the ODI World Cup 2023 campaign on Friday in Bengaluru. The Australian bowlers showed their class as they held their own to defend the 367 run total.

It was a disappointing day for the Pakistanis on the field with the bat and ball. Despite Shaheen Shah Afridi’s five wicket haul the men in green fell short in the end. This was the second successive loss for Pakistan after their loss to India in the previous game.

The only thing that went in their favor was the toss as Babar Azam put Australia into bat. The day began with some sloppy fielding which came to bite the Pakistanis as Usama Mir dropped David Warner.

Australia romp home to easy win

The Australians posted a massive 367/9 from their 50 overs after put into bat first. David Warner and Mitchell Marsh provided the start with a huge 259-run stand for the 1st wicket. The left-handed batter in particular was in punishing mood after he was dropped early in the game.

Mitchell Marsh marked his 32nd Birthday with a career-best knock of 121 score. The two dominated the Pakistan attack as their stand came in just 33.4 overs. Shaheen Afridi picked up yet another fifer in ODI cricket to end the day with figures of 5/54 from his ten overs. None of the other Pakistani bowlers could withstand the onslaught from the Australian batting unit.

Chasing 368 to win, Pakistan began well with Abdullah Shafique in particular showing his aggression. The Pakistani openers added 134 runs in just under 22 overs with both the batters scoring freely. Marcus Stoinis gave the breakthrough Australia when he first got Shafique for 64 and followed it up with Imam’s wicket for 70. Adam Zampa then got the big wicket of Babar Azam for 18 to bring the Aussies back into the game.

Just when Iftikhar Ahmed and Mohammad Rizwan looked dangerous, Adam Zampa got both the batters out LBW. The Australian leg-spinner then got Mohammad Nawaz out stumped to end the night with 4/53. The Australians kept their cool as they romped to an easy win to get their second win of the ODI World Cup 2023 tournament.
