Usama Mir was the main in focus as his dropped catch gave David Warner a chance to continue his innings. That dropped catch proved to be costly as the Australian batter made mincemeat out of Pakistan’s bowling unit.

The 18th game of the ODI World Cup 2023 saw Australia take on Pakistan on Friday in Bengaluru. Pakistan had come into the game after winning two and losing one game before this. Australia on the other hand had beaten Kusal Mendis-led Sri Lanka in Lucknow on Monday.

Australia was asked to bat first after Babar Azam won the toss. The pitch in Bengaluru is known to be a batting beauty. The Australians showed why the sloppy fielding and dropped catches are a crime when playing in such a high-scoring venue.

David Warner turns Pushpa after scoring his 21st ODI century

The Australian openers sent the Pakistani bowling unit into hiding as they added 259 runs for the 1st wicket. David Warner in particular took the initiative as he made Babar Azam’s side pay for the dropped chance.

The 36-year-old was severe on each and every bowler with Haris Rauf in particular coming in for special treatment. Mitchell Marsh was slow to get off the blocks but once he got his eye in there was a run riot.

Mohammad Nawaz was the bowler when David Warner tapped the ball past the spinner to take a single. That one run got the Australian his 21st ODI century for his national side. This feat was marked with Allu Arjun’s now infamous Pushpa style which David Warner has been doing for a while now.

Just one ball after David Warner got to his ton, Mitchell Marsh drove Mohammad Nawaz through the covers. The ball raced for a four as the right-handed batter let out a scream in delight. This was the second ODI century for Mitchell Marsh and that too on the same day as he was celebrating his 32nd birthday.

Pakistan got two wickets in two balls thanks to Shaheen Shah Afridi. Mitchell Marsh was caught by Usama Mir for 121 and Glenn Maxwell was out next ball was caught by Babar Azam. Steve Smith was the third batter out for 7 when he offered a simple return catch to Usama Mir.

The innings from David Warner came to an end when he was caught by Shadab Khan off Haris Rauf for 163. Warner’s knock came off 124 balls with 14 fours and 9 sixes. The 36-year-old had given a great launch pad for his team to reach 400 runs in a must-win game.
