Jesse Marsch set to take over the reins at Premier League club in historic appointment
English Premier League football club Leeds United have sacked their manager Jeese Marsch just after a year as they are on the verge of getting relegated from the league on the basis of goal difference.
The other Premier League football club Southampton also sacked their manager Nathan Jones on Sunday. He lost seven games out of the 8 games he has managed to lead in the league. The Southampton side is at the bottom of the points table with 4 points.
Marsch has left the club when they were just above the relegation zone, thanks to the goal difference following the seven games wellness streak in the league. The 49-year-old is keen on the return to management and is excited by the Southampton project, although the club is sitting at the bottom of the table.
Marsch is expected to join Southampton a little earlier than Leeds
Southampton sacked Jones on Sunday and went formally when luten Boss having taken over from Ralph Hasenhuttl in November before the league was paused for the 2022 edition of the FIFA World Cup. Although some details of the agreement still need to be worked out, Marsch may be hired before Southampton’s weekend trip to Chelsea if negotiations go well.
Marsch is willing to sign a short contract, which is good for Southampton as well. The Southampton board views Marsch as a person who can provide the group with positive energy. He recently has a Premier League experience and played a significant role in Leeds’ success last season in escaping relegation.
Before the arrival of Sports Republic in January 2022, the south coast side was interested in Marsch. Since Marsch played for the New York Red Bulls, Southampton has kept a close eye on him. Southampton is interested in his Red Bull system experience since it shares some similarities with that of former manager Ralph Hasenhuttl in terms of pressing style and system.
Marsch is expected to join Southampton a little earlier than Leeds did last year, giving him 16 instead of 12 games to deal with. Since we already know Marsch won 33% of his games with Leeds last season, drew 25%, and lost 42%, we may utilize percentages rather than actual points to get a better read.
