Afghanistan has completely dominated the game against Australia in the ODI World Cup 2023. On a tricky wicket to bat on in Mumbai’s Wankhede stadium, Afghanistan posted a good score of 291 runs on the board. Ibrahim Zadran scored a fabulous hundred and put Australia on the back foot. In the process, the youngster became the first batter from Afghanistan to score a hundred in the ODI World Cup.

Rashid Khan has had a good game as an All-rounder till now. With the bat, the right-hander scored a crucial 35 lower down the order. with the ball, Rashid claimed a couple of crucial wickets. But it was the pace duo of Naveen-ul-Haq and Azmatullah Omarzai that wreaked havoc in the Australian innings. The two pacers made the best use of the conditions and troubled the Australian team.

Naveen started the proceedings on a fantastic note, as he got rid of Travis Head for a duck. He later dismissed a dangerous-looking Mitchell Marsh. In between the dismissals, there were a lot of things that disturbed the momentum of the game. Australian players complained that the personnel in the Afghanistan dressing room created a lot of movement in the dressing room.

Afghanistan continues to dominate the game

Despite the complaints of the Australian players, it seemed like Afghanistan was not going to care about the concerns of the players. Ajay Jadeja, the mentor of Afghanistan, started making movements and laughed about it. Such things helped Afghanistan, as they got into the mental space of the Australian players. It further hampered the game for Australia, who exceedingly collapsed in the match.

Australia lost the wickets of David Warner and Josh Inglis, thanks to a very good spell of bowling from Omarzai. Later on, the Afghanistan spinners dismissed the lower middle-order batters. It led Australia to tattering at 101/7. Since then, Glenn Maxwell has been fired from Australia. The former world champions would hope that Maxwell could continue going against the bowlers with Pat Cummins and Adam Zampa’s little efforts at the other end.
