Match number 13 between England and Afghanistan is witnessing the defending champions with a mountain to climb. Naveen Ul Haq though gave the Afghans a huge boost by getting the big wicket of England skipper Jos Buttler.

England had won the toss and put Afghanistan into bat on a hot and humid day in New Delhi. The Afghanistan side batted well to reach 284 runs from their 49.5 overs in what is a must-win game for the team.

Afghanistan have lost both of their games so far during the ODI World Cup 2023 tournament. England started with a loss to New Zealand before beating Bangladesh by 137 runs. A win over Afghanistan would give England a chance to pip Pakistan and go to number four in the table.

Chasing 285 to win, the English team lost wickets at regular intervals. After the fall of Dawid Malan, the onus was on the skipper Jos Buttler to score big. The 33-year-old was batting on 9 when Naveen Ul Haq was brought into the attack.

The 24-year-old bowled a swinging delivery and Buttler went looking for the drive. The ball came back in to disturb the furniture as England lost their 4th wicket for 91. This was a huge moment in the game for both teams.

Earlier Jonny Bairstow was out early when he was out for 2 trapped LBW by Fazalhaq Farooqi. Joe Root was batting on 11 when Mujeeb Ur Rahman went through the defences of the former England skipper.

Centurion from the last game, Dawid Malan was on 32 when he was caught by Ibrahim Zadran off Mohammad Nabi. After the fall of Buttler, there was a 28-run stand between Harry Brook and Liam Livingstone. That stand was broken when Rashid Khan had Livingstone out LBW for 10. Harry Brook got to his fifty off just 45 balls for the English.

Rahmanullah Gurbaz top scored with 80 runs off 57 balls for the Afghan side. Wicket-keeper Ikram Akhlil batted well to score 58 runs from 66 balls with 3 fours and 2 sixes. Rashid Khan with 23 and Mujeeb with 28 helped Afghanistan post 284 runs on the board.
