Kevin O’Brien Comes Up With A Special Ton To Seal Victory For Gujarat Giants Over India Capitals In Legends League Cricket 2022
On 17 August 2022, the second season of the Legends League Cricket kicked off in Eden Gardens, Kolkata. However, a charity match was played already on 16 September between India Maharajas and World Giants. Now, in the first match, Gujarat Giants took on India Capitals with the hope to make a winning start.
Speaking of the match, Gujarat’s Virender Sehwag won the toss and he opted to bowl first. Meanwhile, for India Capitals, two former Zimbabwe players Solomon Mire and Hamilton Masakadza came out to open the innings. But, Gujarat bowlers were on fire as they took six wickets for 74 runs only.

Then, Ashley Nurse managed to hit eight fours and nine sixes. He remained not out on 103 runs off 43 balls only. Nurse scored those runs at a strike rate of 239.53. His inning helped India Capitals to post a total of 179 runs by losing seven wickets in 20 overs. For Gujarat, KP Appanna, Emrit, and Thisara Perrera took two wickets each. It was huge for them as they were struggling at 74/6 at one stage of their inning.
In reply, Sehwag got out only on six runs off 10 balls. But, former Irish batter, Kevin O’Brien was on full song as scored 106 runs. Kevin smashed those runs off 61 balls, including 15 fours and three sixes. The Irish batter scored those runs at a strike rate of 173.77. Along with him, two batters came up with some crucial contributions.
It helped them to chase down that target in just 18.4 overs. For India Capitals, veteran spinner, Pravin Tambe picked up three wickets for 28 runs in 3.4 overs. With this win, Gujarat Giants made a good start to this league. On the other hand, India Capitals suffered an early setback. However, Ashley Nurse won the player of the match award for his scintillating knock. Even though, it came in a losing cause. Gujarat chased down the target with three wickets and eight balls to spare.
