England rising star, Harry Brook headlined Sunrisers Hyderabad’s clinical win over Kolkata Knight Riders on Friday at Eden Gardens, thanks to his outstanding knock of 100 runs in just 55 balls, including 12 fours and 3 sixes. Brook was given the chance to open the batting for the franchise and he produced goods. The Englishman gave the team a stellar start as SRH scored 46 runs in the first four overs despite Mayank Agarwal struggling at the other end.

The right-handed batters ripped apart KKR pacers with his brutal hitting. However, he still struggled to play against the spinners. But, he kept grinding and, changed gears once pacers came back.

Brook stayed right till the end and took the team to a daunting score of 228 runs at the end of the first innings. In reply, Kolkata Knight Riders managed to score 205 runs, thereby, falling 23 runs short of the target.

Prior to this game, the 24-year-old struggled to get going in the tournament. His scores in the first three innings in the IPL were 13, 3, and 13. Hence, he was at the receiving end of a lot of criticism from the fans.

Following his hundred on Friday, Brook spoke his heart out at the post match presentation. He minced no words in giving it back to the ‘Indian fans’ who were constantly criticizing him for his performance on the internet.

Here’s what he said:

“I was putting pressure on myself a little bit after the first few games. You go on social media and people are calling you rubbish. You start to doubt yourself a little bit. I just went out there with an ‘I don’t care’ mentality tonight and thankfully it came off. There are a lot of Indian fans out there who’ll say ‘well done’ tonight. But they were slagging me off a few days ago. Glad I could shut them up, to be honest,” Brook said in the post-match presentation.

As it seems, the fans haven’t taken Brook’s statement well and are calling him ‘overconfident’. There are a lot of tweets criticizing him for his remark. Here’s a look at some of those:
