India won the third T20I in Guyana against West Indies to stay alive in the T20I series. It was a must-win game for the visiting side, as a loss would have meant that India could not have a crack at winning the series. With the last two games set to be played in Lauderhill of Florida, India is again in a must-win situation to win the remaining couple of games.

India won the third T20I due to a complete team performance. At first, the bowling unit had a collectively good game. The bowlers restricted the West Indies to a total of 159 runs, which was not that difficult to chase. Captain Hardik Pandya was economical with the new ball. Arshdeep Singh and Axar Patel bowled well from the other end.

In the middle overs, the spin trio of Axar Patel, Yuzvendra Chahal, and Kuldeep Yadav bowled extremely well. Although Mukesh Kumar and Arshdeep were expensive at the death, bowling worked for the most part. India lost both its openers early while chasing the target. But the duo of Tilak Varma and Suryakumar Yadav took India home.

Hardik Pandya’s decision and Irfan Pathan’s tweet

The 32-year-old unorthodox batter was at his best and scored 83 runs in 44 deliveries. The young Tilak Varma remained unbeaten at 49(37) and saw India home along with Hardik, who scored 20*(15). Towards the end of the Indian innings, Varma was so near to completing his second fifty. But Hardik finished things himself and won the match for Team India.

The decision of Hardik to finish the innings himself is being criticized by the fans and former cricketers, as an opportunity for the youngster to finish the game would have been a moral booster for the Guntur-born cricketer. Speaking about the incident, the former Indian player Irfan Pathan tweeted in a cryptic way. The tweet read “Mushkil kaam aap karo, Asaan kaam mein Kar leta hoo. Suna suna Sa lagta hai…” which was presumably used to attack the Indian captain for his decision.
