‘Kya yaar thodi der aur rehna tha’ – Fans react to Quinton De Kock’s 174 vs Bangladesh in ODI World Cup 2023

It was a miserable day for Shakib Al Hasan and his side as they were on the receiving end of a thrashing. The South Africans scored their 4^th total of 300 and above during the ODI World Cup 2023 campaign. The star of the show was Quinton De Kock with an impressive knock of 174 in Mumbai.

For the second game in a row in Mumbai, the South Africans had put yet another bowling attack to shame. The English had faced the full brunt of the South African batting when they scored 399 runs. This resulted in a defeat by a massive 229 runs for the defending World Cup champions.

Bangladesh meanwhile came into the game with just a win against Afghanistan during the ODI World Cup 2023 tournament. Afghanistan’s win over Pakistan in Chennai on Monday had pushed the Bangladeshi team even lower down the points table.

South African charge led by Quinton De Kock –

Shoriful Islam got the big wicket of Reeza Hendricks for 12 to give Bangladesh their 1^st wicket. Mehidy Hasan Miraz then got Rassie Van Der Dussen for 1 to leave South Africa in an early spot of bother. Quinton De Kock didn’t seem fazed as he hit his third century of the ODI World Cup 2023 campaign.

Quinton De Kock had scored centuries against Sri Lanka in New Delhi and Australia in Lucknow. The left-hander is playing in his last tournament in the ODI Format after announcing his desire to retire from the game.

South Africa’s 382 run score was made largely due to Quinton De Kock who scored 174 runs. This knock bettered the 149 run score made by Adam Gilchrist versus Sri Lanka during the ODI World Cup 2007 in Barbados.

Heinrich Klassen (90) and Aiden Markram (60) also continued their amazing form with the bat. The final flourish to the innings was provided by David Miller who scored an unbeaten 34 runs.

Bangladesh chasing 383 to win was in trouble early with the loss of three wickets inside the first ten overs. Tanzid Shakib Hasan was out for 12 when Marco Jansen had him caught by Klassen.

The same bowler and keeper duo struck the next ball when they had Nazmul Hossain Shanto out for a duck. Shakib Al Hasan was the third wicket to fall for a duck this time to Lizaad Williams to give Klassen his 3^rd catch of the day.
