The South African team continued their amazing form as they won their fourth game of the ODI World Cup 2023 tournament. This was also the second win for South Africa in Mumbai after their 229-run win over England last Saturday.

This win now has pushed the South African to the second spot in the table. The Aiden Markram-led side has overhauled New Zealand to jump into number two on the back of a better run-rate.

Aiden Markram won the toss and chose to bat first just like he had done against England. The result was yet another pounding for the bowlers as the South Africans posted a mammoth total of 382 on the board.

South Africa bulldoze their way to yet another huge win

Temba Bavuma still wasn’t fit to play and this saw Reeza Hendricks keep his place in the XI. Shoriful Islam struck first when he got the wicket of the right-handed batter for 12. Rassie Van Der Dussen was then trapped LBW by Mehidy Hasan Miraz for 1 to give Bangladesh their second wicket.

Quinton De Kock and Aiden Markram then combined forces to add 131 runs for the third wicket. The stand came in 22.5 overs as the two batters kept the Bangladeshi bowlers at bay. Shakib Al Hasan got the big wicket of Markram for 60 before De Kock was joined by Heinrich Klassen.

The two added 142 runs for the 4th wicket in just 87 balls to kill the game off for Bangladesh. De Kock scored 174 which was his 21st ODI ton and third of the ODI World Cup 2023 campaign.

His score of 174 was also the best by any wicket-keeper in World Cup history going past the 149 scored by Adam Gilchrist. Heinrich Klassen came up with another power knock before he was out for 90. David Miller then scored a quick 34 not out to help his side post 382 on the board.

Chasing 383 to win, Bangladesh did not have any chance as they found themselves losing wickets at regular intervals. Veteran batter Mahmudullah stood tall as he scored a memorable century (111) to bring some respect to the Bangladeshi scorecard.

South Africa will next play Pakistan in their game on Friday in Chennai. A win will give the Proteas a chance to get closer to the final four stages of the tournament. Bangladesh on the other hand is set to face the Netherlands this Saturday in Kolkata.
