‘Kyu padhe ho bechare ke peche’ – Fans react as England is set to request Ben Stokes to come out of retirement and play ODI World Cup 2023
The much-awaited ODI World Cup 2023 is scheduled to kick off in October. The first match will take place at the Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad, where the two finalists from the last edition, England and New Zealand will lock horns with each other. The venues for the knockout games and semi-final have been announced. The final is set to be hosted by Ahmedabad’s Narendra Modi Stadium.
The Three Lions will try their best to defend the ODI World Cup title in the upcoming mega event. In order to defend their title, they are in talks to bring star all-rounder, Ben Stokes for the tournament. Although, earlier the Test skipper made it clear that he will not be returning back to the ODI format during Ashes 2023. On the coming Tuesday, August 15, England management will have a meeting in which they will select the 18-member squad for the tournament.
There has not been a clear direction on what he’s going to do yet: Matthew Mott
The coach of England in the limited overs format, Matthew Mott has told Daily Mail Sport that two crucial topics of the meeting would be: 1. A call from Jos Buttler to Ben Stokes where he will request him to play the 2023 World Cup and 2. An updated medical report on Jofra Archer. “Jos will probably lead the way on that communication, but Ben Stokes is fairly forthright with all of us. We’ll check on his interest,” Mott said of Stokes. The current England Test captain stopped playing one-day international cricket 13 months ago,” Mott was quoted as saying in the Daily Mail Sport.
“There has not been a clear direction on what he’s going to do yet, but we are still hopeful. I’ve always said his bowling would be a bonus, but just look at what he brings with the bat, even in the field. Watching him throughout the whole Ashes series, he had such a great presence. He’s done it for years when it comes to performing in one-day cricket and so he’s an invaluable commodity,” Mott added.

On Indian wickets you need players who can play spin better or can bowl spin.
This addition won’t add the maths to win World Cup for England.— Shweta (@TrustScore_1) August 13, 2023
England who is already a threat to every other team will be much stronger with inclusion of Ben Stokes.
