‘Ladki ka chakar babu bhaiya’ – Fans react as Shubman Gill calls Sachin Tendulkar his inspiration

India’s leading tyre manufacturing company CEAT recently sponsored the cricket rating awards 2023 on Monday, 21 August. The event witnessed multiple cricket awards across various categories while felicitating both men and women cricketers.  The awards were announced in a huge gala event where cricketers were awarded based on the CEAT Cricket Rankings.  

The Indian cricket team’s young opening batsman Shubman Gill was felicitated with the CEAT ODI Batter of the Year Award and International Cricketer of the Year Award. While giving his award-winning speech, Gill openly admitted that the master blaster Sachin Tendulkar had been his idol, and he started playing cricket because of him. 

Shubman Gill talked about how Tendulkar has been his inspiration since he started to play. Shubman Gill also added how Tendulkar’s techniques and discipline towards the game have consistently motivated him to perform better.

The rest of the winners at the event were felicitated with awards like CEAT awards were Bhuvneshwar Kumar (CEAT T20 Bowler of the Year), Suryakumar Yadav (CEAT T20I Batter of the Year), Brendon McCullum (CEAT Innovated Coach of the Year award), and Deepti Sharma (CEAT Women’s Cricketer of the Year). 

The fans had mixed reactions to Shubman Gill’s statement regarding Sachin Tendulkar being his inspiration to play cricket since he has gone on record to talk about how Virat Kohli has been his motivation since childhood to play international cricket. While congratulating Shubman Gill for his achievements, some fans also trolled him for being a hypocrite. Some even called him a chameleon. 

Some fans even trolled Shubman Gill for calling Sachin Tendulkar his idol for the sake of the God of Cricket’s daughter, Sara Tendulkar. Multiple dating rumours have surfaced on the Internet regarding Shubman Gill and Sara Tendulkar. A user said “Ladki ka chakar babu bhaiya,” while hinting at Shubman and Sara’s relationship. Another user said “The new chameleon in the market, changing inspirations day by day,” while hunting a Shubman Gill’s previous statement of calling Virat Kohli his inspiration.
