‘Lagta hai ye apni jersey dhona bhul gaya’ – Fans react as Suryakumar Yadav wears Sanju Samson’s jersey in first ODI vs West Indies
After clinching the two-match Test series 1-0, India locked horns with West Indies in the first match of the three-match ODI series. The match was played at the Kensington Oval, Bridgetown, in Barbados on Thursday, July 27. Considering this series is the first phase in their preparation for the 2017 ODI World Cup, fans were excited to know which players will have the chance to participate. Fans were hoping to see Sanju Samson among other players in the starting XI.
However, the fans were taken aback when Rohit Sharma revealed the playing XI, where Samson was seen left out of the team. Ishan Kishan was chosen as the wicketkeeper of the team. Fans were shocked to see a player wearing Samson’s numbered ‘9’ jersey while the team was on the field, though. It was later found that it was Suryakumar Yadav.

Ishan Kishan and Kuldeep Yadav guide India to victory
If we talk about the match, the Men in Blue skipper, Rohit Sharma won the toss and elected to bowl first. The Windies while batting first was bundled out for a mere total of 114 runs. They were able to bat for only 23 overs. The highest scorer for the side was their skipper, Shai Hope who scored 43 runs off 45 balls with four fours and a six in his innings.
The star bowler for team India was Kuldeep Yadav who snapped four wickets in his spell of three overs out of which two were maidens. He conceded only six runs in his spell. Ravindra Jadeja grabbed three wickets in his spell of six overs where he conceded 37 runs in his spell. One wicket each was taken by Mukesh Kumar, Hardik Pandya and Shardul Thakur.
In reply to West Indies’ total, India chased down the target on the second last ball of the 23rd over. The highest scorer for the side was Kishan who scored a fifty. He was sent back to the pavilion after scoring 52 runs from 46 balls which included seven fours and a six in his innings. The pick of the bowler for the Caribbean was Gudakesh Motie who took two wickets in his spell of 6.5 overs where he conceded 26 runs.
