After getting officially postponed in July, the Lanka Premier League (LPL) is all set to begin on 6 December 2022. LPL’s official promoter, the IPG Group confirmed the news on Twitter on 9 August 2022. Initially, the economic crisis of the country forced a postponement of this tournament.

“LPL will be held from 6th to 23rd December,” – LPL tournament organizer, Samantha Dodanwela

Speaking about the rescheduling of this league, the LPL tournament organizer, Samantha Dodanwela spoke to the media. He said: “It’s my pleasure to announce that the LPL will be held from 6th to 23rd December,”

However, a decision regarding a potential LPL re-draft will be taken. Due to the financial crisis of the country, the Sri Lanka Cricket Board decided to postpone earlier this month. The Innovative Production Group FZE (IPG) was the media rights holder of the tournament. They requested the Board to look into the matter. Thus, the Board took this final decision. However, due to the same reason, Sri Lanka lost the Asia Cup. Now, that tournament is going to happen in UAE. As per Sri Lanka’s Future Tours Program, the tournament will take place between a home Test series against West Indies in November and an away ODI series against India in December-January.

Speaking about his tournament, this tournament came into the picture in 2020. Jaffna Kings, formerly the Stallions, were champions in the two previous seasons. The other four teams are Galle Gladiators, Colombo Stars, Kandy Falcons, and Dambulla Giants. However, this tournament will be a good addition for the Sri Lankan players ahead of the World Cup in 2023. It will also help in briefing the ongoing SLC invitational T20 tournament.
