In their second ODI World Cup 2023 game, host India faced Afghanistan at Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi. Bowling first, India got off to a superb start by dismissing three Afghani batters within the first 15 overs of the game. Star India pacer Jasprit Bumrah drew the first blood and pushed Afghanistan back into the game.

Bumrah gave India a breakthrough in the 7th over of the game as he dismissed opener Ibrahim Zadran. However, the major highlight of that wicket was Bumrah’s celebration, as he copied footballer Marcus Rashford’s celebration. It is Manchester United superstar’s trademark ‘Workout’ celebration. Bumrah’s unique celebration caught fans’ eyes, and the video went viral on social media.

Reacting to this, Rashford also uploaded Bumrah’s picture from the game and lauded his performance. Rashford made an Instagram story with some emojis. It’s worth noting that Rashford is currently with the national team to play a friendly game against Australia on October 13.

Hasmatullah Shahidi and Rahmat Shah build a partnership

However, after three early setbacks, Afghanistan skipper Hasmatullah Shahidi and all-rounder Rahmat Shah tried to build the innings. They successfully sparked a 121-run partnership for the fourth wicket. In his innings, Shah scored 62 runs off 69 balls with the help of four sixes and two fours. Meanwhile, Shahidi also hammered his first World Cup century and tried to outplay Indian bowlers.

Meanwhile, star India all-rounder Hardik Pandya took charge and broke the partnership. He dismissed Rahmat Shah with a slow off-cut in the 35th over of the game. In 36 overs, Afghanistan has scored 194/4, with Mohammed Nabi and Shahidi still on strike. The ground dimensions and pitch are batting-friendly in Delhi, and anything less than 280 will be difficult to save for Afghanistan.
