‘Lions Roar’: Chennai blow away Bangalore to register their first win in Indian T20 League 2022
Chennai faced Bangalore in the 22nd match of the Indian T20 league 2022 at the DY Patil Stadium in Mumbai. The match provided the fans with an entertaining high scoring thriller. A total of 409 runs were scored in the match and the scoreboard may not actually reveal how close and nerve wracking the affair was.
Bangalore won the toss and decided to field first. Chennai’s start to the innings was once again not up to the mark. They lost Ruturaj Gaikwad and Moeen Ali early and were 36 for two down within the 7th over of the innings. What the fans witnessed after this was nothing short of colossal. Robin Uthappa and Shivam Dube got together at this stage. They steadied the Chennai ship at first and at the halfway stage they were 60 for 2. The duo then jumped straight from the first to the fifth gear. Anything that touched the bat crossed the boundary lines. They massacred the Bangalore bowling and the scoring rate kept jumping up. Uthappa was finally dismissed in the 19th over after he scored 88 runs off 50 deliveries hitting 9 sixes and 4 fours. Shivam Dube continued his onslaught till the last over and scored an unbeaten 95 off 46 deliveries. His innings comprised 8 sixes and 5 fours. The duo of Uthappa and Dube brought down hell on the Bangalore bowlers as the team scored a massive 156 runs in the last 10 overs. Chennai finished with a huge total of 216 runs from their 20 overs. Wanindu Hasaranga managed to pick up 2 wickets for Bangalore, while Josh Hazlewood had a single wicket to his name.
Bangalore’s start was shaky in reply to the mammoth total. They were 4 down for 50 runs inside the first 7 overs. The cream of the Bangalore batting containing Faf du Plessis, Virat Kohli and Glenn Maxwell was already back in the hut. Chennai was controlling the game at the halfway stage of the Bangalore innings. Bangalore was 86 for 4 down after 10 overs and required 131 runs off 60 deliveries. The young Suyash Prabhudessai was looking dangerous and keeping the hopes alive for Bangalore at this stage. The youngster played a brilliant little gem of 34 from 18 deliveries before he was dismissed by Maheesh Theeksana in the 13th over of the innings. Bangalore was 110 for 5 at this stage and required 107 runs more from 46 deliveries. Dinesh Karthik came in to bat and Bangalore was largely depending on him to take them home. Theeksana picked up another important wicket of Shabaz Ahmed, who looked set at the crease. Ahmed scored 41 off 27 deliveries hitting 4 fours during his stay. Maheesh Theeksana bowled a brilliant spell of 4 overs picking up 4 wickets for 33 runs, as he put the breaks on the Bangalore innings at the right stages. As the 15th over of the innings ended Bangalore was 140 for 6 and still required 77 runs off 30 balls. Dinesh Karthik was at the crease and Bangalore’s hopes were mostly resting on him. He slammed Mukesh Choudhary for 23 runs in the 17th over and the momentum of the match seemed like changing again. But Dwayne Bravo picked up Dinesh Karthik in the 2nd delivery of the 18th over and made sure Chennai registers their first points for the season. Karthik scored 34 off 14 deliveries hitting 3 sixes and 2 fours in his knock, but his awesome efforts ended in a losing cause. Bangalore finished with a score of 193 runs in 20 overs falling short of Chennai’s total by 23 runs. Chennai put an end to their losing streak of 4 matches to pick up the fist points of the tournament.

Clever bowling by Theekshana, he will have more of a role for #CSK as the pitches get a little tired and low…

How relieved was captain #jaddu! That’s the reason why teams like #csk have a strong following, they always manage to pull a special trick out of the bag. Expecting the same from the #Mumbaiindians tomorrow. #CSKvsRCB #TATAIPL #CricketTwitter
