All the franchises are gearing up for the 16th edition of the Indian T20 League that will kickstart today with a match between Gujarat and Chennai at the Narendra Modi stadium in Ahmedabad. Before that, captains from all franchises got together at the stadium for a photo shoot with the trophy ahead of the upcoming season
During the shoot, Chennai skipper MS Dhoni was seen interacting with the players like Hardik Pandya, Faf du Plessis and Sanju Samson and sharing his thoughts with them. He must be sharing his experience of playing in the league throughout the years which could be learning for other captains to ahead in the tournament.
Chennai is one of the most successful franchises in the history of the Indian T20 League. Under Dhoni’s captaincy, Chennai have the most appearances in the finals (2008, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013, 2015, 2018, 2019, and 2021) out if which they have won the title four times in 2010, 2011, 2018 and 2021. However, Chennai had a disastrous season last year in 2022, where they finished in the ninth position in the points table by winning only four out of their 14 league matches.
Will Chennai clinch their fifth title in 2023
This is also expected to be the last outing of Dhoni in Chennai yellow and the franchise will be looking to give him a perfect farewell by winning the fifth title in the upcoming season. However, it looks like that Chennai have already found the replacement of Dhoni as they bought Ben Stokes for INR 16.25 crore in the 2023 auction. The English all-rounder is likely to lead Chennai after Dhoni’s retirement. Apart from that, Chennai also roped in Ajinkya Rahane at the base price of INR 50 lakhs for the upcoming season.
