Manoj Tiwary urges Indian Cricket Board to identify main reason behind Virat Kohli and Gautam Gambhir’s on field brawl
Veteran Indian cricketer Manoj Tiwary recently spoke about the on-field banter between Virat Kohli and Gautam Gambhir after Lucknow Super Giants clash with Royal Challengers Bangalore on May 1st at the Ekana Cricket Stadium.
Both Kohli and Gambhir have received a lot of flak from different quarters for their heated conversion after RCB defeated LSG by 18 runs. It started from the 17th over of LSG’s innings when Kohli got involved in a heated banter with LSG batter Naveen-ul-Haq. After that, Gambhir got involved in the matter and had banter with Kohli, while teammates of both players were desperately trying to separate them.
Manoj Tiwary also doesn’t seem happy with the on-field fracas between Kohli and Gambhir and wants the Indian Cricket Board to intervene in the matter. He said that the Board should play a more significant role in finding the root cause of the brawl.
“BCCI should step in. This is not a pleasant sight, especially when you are an ambassador of the game, you shouldn’t do such things. IPL is one of the most popular tournaments in the world, a lot of people watch it, especially youngsters. A lot of young people want to become like Virat Kohli. So, it is important to find the root cause of clashes like these. Healthy competition is good for the sport but not incidents like these,” Tiwary said on Cricbuzz.
‘They will forget that he (Gambhir) has played a major role in India winning two World Cups’ – Tiwary
Tiwary also added that people mostly remember Gambhir for his aggressive behaviour despite the fact that he has helped the Indian team to clinch the two world titles: the 20-20 World Cup in 2007 and ODI World Cup in 2011. Gambhir was the highest scorer for India in the final of both tournaments.
“This cannot go on. These two are icons as I had said earlier. When icons quit cricket, people want to remember them for what they have done on the field rather than other things. People mostly will remember Gambhir for his aggression, that will be the first thing that will come to their mind. They will forget that he has played a major role in India winning two World Cups. This should not happen. This is not the right example to set,” Tiwary further added.
