Mumbai began its campaign against Delhi in the Indian T20 League 2022 at the Brabourne stadium in Mumbai. The contest was a hard-fought one but Mumbai ended on the wrong side once again in their season opener.

Mumbai batted first in the match and put up a total of 177 runs from their 20 overs. Ishan Kishan played a brilliant knock scoring 81 runs off 48 deliveries. But given the conditions at the Brabourne stadium, they were 15-20 runs short of what could have been a winning total. Delhi started chasing on the wrong note. They kept losing wickets at regular intervals. They were 5 wickets down for 72 runs in the 10th over. From there at first, Shardul Thakur and then Lalit Yadav along with Axar Patel staged a dramatic turnaround. Lalit scored 48 off 38 deliveries and took his team to victory with 10 deliveries still to be played.

The performance of his bowlers left the skipper of the Mumbai team visibly disappointed. But when he might have felt that things can’t get any worse, Rohit Sharma was fined for his team’s slow over-rate.

The skipper of the Mumbai team has been fined a sum of INR 12 Lakhs for the team’s slow over-rate. The penalty for the offence was just limited to fine because this was the team’s first offence under the Indian T20 League Code of Conduct relating to minimum over rate offences.
