Mohammed Shami joins elite list after completing 200 Test wickets
Indian bowlers were on fire on Day 3 of the first Test between India and South Africa. The bowling led by Mohammed Shami run riot and dismantled South Africa for 197. Shami, who took five wickets in the inning, also completed the milestone of 200 Test wickets to join an elite list. Shami reached the landmark in his 55th Test, becoming the third fastest to reach 200 wickets. Preceding Shami are Kapil Dev (50 Tests) and Javagal Srinath (54 Tests).
Shami ended the innings with staggering figures of 5 for 44. Earlier in the day, South Africa made a remarkable comeback and bowled out India for 327, with Lungi Ngidi taking six wickets. India collapsed from 199-2 to 327 all-out. However, this was still a significant score. With rain washing out Day 2, the collapse didn’t India hurt much. On helpful bowling conditions, Indian bowlers made merry.
None of the South African batters offered any resistance to the Indian pace attack.. Along with Shami, Jasprit Bumrah and Shardul Thakur took two wickets each. Meanwhile, India ended Day 2 at 16-1, leading by 146 runs. Earlier, Indian top order looked solid on Day 1. KL Rahul scored his seventh century, while there were significant contributions from Mayank Agarwal and Ajinkya Rahane, who helped India finish Day 1 at 272-3. Skipper Virat Kohli also looked good but failed to convert his start into a big one. He made a solid 35. Meanwhile, Cheteshwar Pujara and Rishabh Pant failed to make any impact.
