Mohammed Shami ordered to pay lakhs to his estranged wife as alimony

India pacer Mohammed Shami has been asked by a Kolkata Court to pay alimony money to his estranged wife, Hasin Jahan. The amount is 1.30 lakhs per month. Bifurcating the money, the 50,000 will be the personal alimony to Hasin Jahan. The remaining Rs 80,000 will be the cost of maintenance of their daughter who is staying with her. Five years back, Jahan filed a case demanding 10 lakhs of alimony money per month.
Out of this, 7,00,000 will be her personal alimony and the remaining Rs 3,00,000 will be on account of the maintenance cost of their daughter. Jahan’s counsel, Mriganka Mistry informed the court that Shami’s annual income is around seven crores. The counsel used this as a reason to justify her client’s demands. In reply, Selim Rahman, the counsel for Shami, claimed that Jahan has a steady career as a model.
After listening to both sides, the lower court of West Bengal’s capital city awarded Jahan an amount of 1.30 lakhs. Even though she expressed her gratitude over the ruling, the ex-wife of the right-arm pacer maintains that the amount could have been higher. On the other hand, India premier pacer is yet to respond over the matter.
Hasin Jahan personally attacked Mohammed Shami last September
For the unversed, Jahan posted a message on social media after India’s win against arch-rivals Pakistan in the Men’s Asia Cup last year. In the message, she called her ex-husband a womanizer which created an outrage on social media. Notably, Shami wasn’t part of the Indian team for the tournament.
“Congratulations. A memorable victory. Thanks to our Tigers for helping the country win. This had to happen; the country’s reputation and honour are protected by honest patriots rather than criminals and womanisers,” her post then had read.
For those who don’t know, Jahan, when she first filed a case against Shami five years back, claimed that her ex-husband cheated on her. She also raised concerns over Shami’s visit to Dubai after India’s tour of South Africa instead of coming back home.
