India pacer Mohammed Shami was recently ruled out of the ongoing three-match ODI series against Bangladesh. He was ruled out due to a shoulder injury and was believed to have sustained it after the 20-20 World Cup 2022 in Australia. He was rested for the New Zealand series alongside other senior players. Meanwhile, the right-arm pacer has been ruled out and is replaced by Jaydev Unadkat, who made his Test debut in 2010.

At that time, the likes of Rahul Dravid, Sachin Tendulkar, VVS Laxman, MS Dhoni, Zaheer Khan, Harbhajan Singh, etc. After that, he never played for India in Whites. However, consistent performance in four-day games has finally earned him a place in the team. Talking about the left-arm pacer, he has picked 353 wickets averaging 23.04 including 20 five-wicket hauls.

The hunger to play for India still burns bright: Jaydev Unadkat

Recently, the 31-year-old told ESPNcricinfo that he still has the desire to play for India. He added that even though he looks at his individual performance, he also ensures those ends up in the team’s win. Unadkat further added that if the player loves the game, everything will fall into place.

“the hunger and fire to play and perform for the country is still burning bright”.

“I do look at my individual performances, but from a way that it takes the team through, not in a way where I think if it will help me get selected for India or India A,” he had said. “At the end of the day, that’s the space you want to be in and I’m happily trying to help the team win as many games as possible. If you love the way you play the game, all other things will fall in place. I love this space and the mindset I’m currently in and don’t want to change that for anything. But the hunger and fire to play and perform for the country is still burning bright.”
