Mukesh Ambani-led Reliance Industries is set to make a massive splash in the coming days. As per Bloomberg reports, the Indian billionaire is set to acquire Disney’s television and OTT business in India.

The ongoing ODI World Cup 2023 is being beamed across Star Sports on TV and Disney Hotstar on the OTT platforms. Reliance has already acquired the rights for Indian Cricket matches along with Sport 18.

The Indian Premier League is being beamed along with Star Sports showing the games on TV. JIO Cinema on the other hand beams the Indian Premier League matches on its OTT platform. IPL 2023 saw the OTT platform beam the matches for free which was a first by any broadcaster.

Reliance set to expand –

As per reports which was carried out by Bloomberg, Reliance Industries is set to take over Disney’s Indian business. If everything falls into place then Disney will sell its business for a whopping 10 billion dollars.

There were many other big names in the running to acquire the deal but Mukesh Ambani has come out trumps. As per Bloomberg, Reliance is set to offer a ‘Cash and Stock’ deal to Disney to tie up the deal.

The report also stated that the entire could be finalized and could be in the works to be announced. The date as per Bloomberg is likely to be the start of the next month when the deal’s completion could be announced.

Disney and Hotstar had a huge setback when Reliance won the rights for the Indian Cricket Matches. To counter the rapid growth of JIO the ODI World Cup 2023 and Asia Cup were to be beamed free on the OTT platform.

JIO also showed the Football Club in 2022 after winning the rights to show the matches in India. With the growing popularity and fan appeal the sports arm of reliance is at an all-time high.

The 2023 ODI World Cup has seen a lot of fans use the OTT platform to watch the games. The viewership peaked at an unprecedented 4 CR viewers during the India versus New Zealand game on Sunday. It was over 3.6 CR during the India versus Bangladesh game when Virat Kohli scored his 48th ODI ton during India’s win.
