2023 has been a mixed big year for the Indian Cricket Team. Rohit Sharma and his team reached two world finals and were lost on both occasions to Australia. With 2024 just hours away the Indian fans will hope for a better year beckons.

Former England skipper Nasser Hussain is a huge admirer of Indian Cricket. The former batting star reserved his praise for a one-star player on the Indian side. It wasn’t Rohit Sharma or Virat Kohli as one would think.

The star in question is a youngster who has made the fans and the game itself fall in love with his batting. These comments by Nasser Hussain were made while speaking to the official website of the Apex Cricket Council.

Nasser Hussain calls young India star ‘Box-Office’ Attraction-

Just like a billion Indian fans, even Nasser Hussain seems to be missing Rishabh Pant. The 26-year-old has been away from the field due to his accident which occurred on 29th of December, 2022.

While the recovery was slow, the progress made by Pant has been amazing. During his chat with the Apex Cricket Body website, Hussain also revealed the pivotal role played by Ricky Ponting.

“That was such a serious accident. The whole world held its breath and it has been a slow recovery. You follow on social media, on my phone, and the initial first walking steps to the scenes in the gym and then scenes of him playing a bit of cricket, scenes of him with Ricky (Ponting).”

Nasser Hussain and Ricky Ponting shared the commentary booth during the Ashes 2023 in England. That’s how the former England skipper saw how much Ponting was involved with the recovery phase of the young India star.

“I travelled with Ricky in the summer in the Ashes, and Ricky was texting him ‘how’s the progress coming along’, and he is a box office cricketer.” KL Rahul, Ishan Kishan, KS Bharat, and Sanju Samson have kept wickets for India in Pant’s absence. Jitesh Sharma has become the latest player to don the wicketkeeping gloves for India.

“India have done well without him (Pant) as KL has come in and been brilliant in all formats. They’ll continue to be brilliant. They’re lucky to have both of them, but Rishabh Pant, before his injury, was box office, and hopefully, after his injury, will be box office as well.”
