At the Indian Premier League (IPL) mini-auction in Dubai, Rishabh Pant took centre as he joined the auction table alongside top Delhi Capitals officials. The table included head coach Ricky Ponting and Director of Cricket Sourav Ganguly. This marked Pant’s significant public appearance, the first since he was seen in an IPL 2023 match. The star India wicketkeeper is currently in the process of recovering from injuries suffered in a life-threatening road accident in December 2022.
Later in the day, Pant was also seen spending time on a tennis court with one of his idols, MS Dhoni. A viral video shows Dhoni and Pant engaging in a game of tennis late in the evening at an indoor court. The video garnered attention as Pant received enthusiastic cheers for executing a powerful overhead smash that caught Dhoni off guard.
In contrast to Pant, MS Dhoni did not participate with his team, Chennai Super Kings at the auction table on Tuesday. The former India captain received a warm welcome with loud cheers at the airport when he was seen arriving in the city on the day of the auction.

Rishabh Pant is expected to return to action in IPL 2024
The talismanic wicketkeeper batter, Rishabh Pant is anticipated to make his competitive comeback in IPL 2024, marking his first return to action since the car crash. The wicketkeeper-batter, absent from IPL 2023 and the ODI World Cup, took charge of the Delhi Capitals camp in Kolkata earlier in the year. The Director of Cricket Sourav Ganguly had earlier informed India Today that Rishabh Pant is set to resume playing in 2024.
“Rishabh Pant is in good shape. He will play from next season,” Ganguly said India Today.
The 27-year-old is currently undergoing intensive rehab as he keeps on sharing videos of his recovery sessions. Pant will be aiming for an early return to action. He is also expected to participate in a few competitive matches before rejoining the IPL. In addition to it, his workload will be carefully managed as he progresses in his comeback journey.
