Notably, Australia had posted 383 and 164 runs in the first and second innings, respectively; however, New Zealand posted 179 runs in the first innings, and they need 258 runs in the second innings to win the opening Test match of the New Zealand vs. Australia series.
However, Australia’s star cricketer, Nathan Lyon, feels that Australia are standing in a commanding position on Day 3 of the first Test match. The 36-year-old cricketer also talks about Glenn Phillips bowling extremely well in the game alongside star all-rounder Mitchell Santner in the hope of winning the first Test match.
“I thought Glenn bowled pretty well to take five wickets, hats off to him. Pretty good day. (Surprised to see spin in New Zealand?) No, not after watching that Test against South Africa. When they left Mitch Santner out, I was pretty surprised. I am not sure where that Test was but I was at home licking my lips. (The wind) Can be challenging at the start but as soon as you find your rhythm,” Nathon Lyon said being quoted by NDTV Sports.
I thought Rachin Ravindra and Daryl played superb innings there: Nathan Lyon
Nathan Lyon also talks about Rachin Ravindra and Daryl Mitchell’s partnership in the first Test match. In addition, the great seamer was extremely impressed with star batter Rachin Ravindra and also talked about his batting performance in the ODI World Cup 2023, where he played a pivotal role in guiding his side to the semi-final before suffering defeat against India.
“I thought Rachin and Daryl played superb innings there. Rachin seems like a really good player, first time I have bowled to him. Watched a lot of him during the World Cup and he’s going to be a superstar. He played very well there. If we can come out here and just do our job and put the pressure on, hopefully, we will crack them,” he added further.
