‘Need to understand importance of anchor innings’ – Fans laud Ruturaj Gaikwad after his latest record against Australia during final T20
Ruturaj Gaikwad created a unique record on Sunday during the final T20I versus Australia in Bengaluru. The 26-year-old has become the batter with the highest aggregate runs scored in a T20I series versus Australia.
The Indian opener has played all five games of the series and scored 223 runs with an average of 55.75. The lanky batter has also hit 1 century and one half-century to make himself a thorn in the flesh for the Australian side.
Ruturaj Gaikwad falls short of Virat Kohli’s record –
Indian opener Ruturaj Gaikwad on Sunday could score only 10 runs before giving an easy catch to Jason Behrendorff. Ben Dwarshuis was the wicket-taker as the Indian opener walked back to the pavilion.
During his short-lived stint in the middle, Ruturaj Gaikwad had created a new record. The 223 runs scored by the batter was the most by any player in a T20I series against Australia.
The most runs in a 5-match T20I series belongs to Virat Kohli who had scored 231 runs against England in 2021. If Ruturaj Gaikwad had scored 9 more runs he would have gone past the record set by the former India skipper.
Matthew Wade won the toss and chose to bowl first yet again on a soggy and slow surface in Bengaluru. Nathan Ellis came in for Chris Green while Deepak Chahar made way for Arshdeep Singh. It has come to light that Deepak Chahar had to fly back home to tend to a family emergency.
The Australian bowlers showed great discipline in restricting India to just 160 runs on the board. Yashasvi Jaiswal began well yet again but threw away his wicket for 21. After the fall of Ruturaj Gaikwad, it was Suryakumar Yadav who was the next to perish for 5.
Rinku Singh for once couldn’t bail India out of trouble as he was out for 6. Jitesh Sharma and Shreyas Iyer then joined forces to add 42 runs for 5th wicket. The Indian wicket-keeper was out after scoring 24 runs.
Shreyas Iyer top-scored for India with 53 runs while Axar Patel scored 31 important runs from 21 balls. Team India has already sealed the series after winning the 4th game in Raipur by 20 runs.
