The World Test Championship (WTC) final between India and Australia will take place at London’s famous Oval ground on June 7. India will be looking to improve their performance from the previous year’s inaugural final in order to maintain their position as one of the major forces in international test cricket. But Australia is always a power to be feared; the Baggy Greens thrashed the West Indies on the islands last winter and demolished old rivals England in the 21–22 Ashes series, winning 4-0.

The recently concluded Border-Gavaskar Trophy series between India and Australia took place earlier this year; where the hosts emerged victorious by winning two of the four games. However, Australia returned to the series with an emphatic victory in Indore, which is often a very difficult pitch for visiting teams. Given that the last test is being played on neutral ground and that the final test ended in a draw, we may expect a few days of really competitive cricket. India’s performance should be compared to that of the Australians.

The Oval Pitch helps pacers more than spinners

A picture of the WTC Final pitch in progress has recently appeared online, days before the much anticipated final. The pitch seems primarily green. The pitch of the Kennington Oval is known for being dependable and constant, nevertheless. It encourages fair competition between bowlers and batters, which is something that both players and spectators honour. Due to the significant bounce of the playing surface, spinners may frequently snag the ball and rapid bowlers can cause movement. Run scoring is difficult since it is frequently slow. The surface regularly deteriorates during the course of the game, suiting the pacers more.
