“Pat came. Pat Saw. Pat Conquered”: Twitter goes berserk over Pat Cummins’ unbelievable knock versus Mumbai

Kolkata comprehensively defeated Mumbai in the 14th match of the Indian T20 League 2022. Kolkata won the toss and decided to field first after winning the toss. Mumbai looked shaky at the start of their innings but recovered steadily. Towards the end of their innings, Pollard played a fiery knock of 22 runs off 5 deliveries. Suryakumar Yadav played a brilliant knock of 52 runs from 36 deliveries. Mumbai put up a total of 161 runs in their 20 overs.
Kolkata looked shaky from the beginning of their innings. They were 67 runs for 3 down in the 10th over. Venkatesh Iyer (50 off 41) stood at one end while wickets kept falling at the opposite end. Kolkata fans were hoping that Andre Russell will repeat his exploits of the last match. But Tymal Mills dismissed Russell in the 14th over of the innings. Kolkata at this stage was 101 for 5 wickets down. Pat Cummins came into bat when the team required 61 runs off 41 deliveries. It appeared from the onset that Pat Cummins is in a different mood. He took on even bowlers like Tymal Mills and Jasprit Bumrah. His counter-attacking brand of cricket brought the equation down to 35 runs off the last 30 deliveries of the innings. Rohit Sharma handed over the ball to Daniel Sams.
Cummins welcomed Daniel Sams with a 6 and did not seem to stop from there. Every ball Sams bowled in the over was put out of the boundary lines by Cummins. He smashed 4 sixes in the over along with 2 overs. There was no-ball in the over and 2 runs were scored off it. So, the total runs from the over were 35. Cummins finished the match before the fans could have batted an eye. In the process, Cummins completed his fifty in just 14 balls. This is now the joint-fastest half-century in the history of the Indian T20 League. He now shares the record with KL Rahul, who achieved the feat in 2018 against Delhi.
What Cummins did today appeared unreal to the fans. He became the talk of social media and fans were thrilled to see the innings from the Aussie. Even the opposition captain Rohit Sharma was stunned by the knock. When asked about the knock from Cummins, Rohit said- “It will be hard to digest,”- in a post match conversation with the commentators. Fans were also trolling Daniel Sams for the over conceding 35 runs.
