Star Tennis player, Rafael Nadal recently picked Argentina skipper, Lionel Messi over Al-Nassr striker, Cristiano Ronaldo in the best footballer debate. He stated this after Messi made his debut for Inter Miami where he scored a penalty in extra time, which took his team to victory. The ‘GOAT’ debate in football has raised a couple of weeks back.

Despite the fact that both players are at the end of their brilliant careers, fans continue to have their own views on the topic of who is the greatest o of all time. Nadal chose Messi when he was asked to make a choice between the two legends of the game. Although he chose the World Cup winner, he made it clear that he is a big fan of Real Madrid. “Messi is better, but I’m a [Real] Madrid fan,” he said.

I have to put a point and aside to my sports career: Rafael Nadal

The Spaniard opined that despite winning a lot of matches, the past few years have been challenging. He also stated that he took a rest from the game for a little as he was not fully fit to participate in the big tournaments because of his injury which he sustained during the 2023 Australian Open. He asserted his plan  to focus on regenerating his body, but did not confirmed his comeback date.

“They have been difficult years although the victories mask it. I make a point and part. At this point, without being prepared to be able to compete at the level I need. I have to put a point and aside to my sports career. I am going to try to regenerate my body. I’m not going to set a return date. When I’m ready, I’ll try to be there. The Davis Cup, at the end of the year, can be an objective. And try to face next year with guarantees in what I think will be my last year,” Nadal was quoted as saying in the press conference.
