Rajasthan star player feels that he doesn’t deserve a place in the Indian team

India opted for some prolific young talents for the ongoing South Africa T20I series based on their performance in the recently concluded Indian T20 League. Another young talent, Riyan Parag, did not get a call to the squad. But, he claimed that he did not perform enough to get a call to the National side.

He had another ordinary season with his Rajasthan franchise as he managed only 183 runs in 14 innings. Eventually, he was part of this team that lost the final against Gujarat. Only, in the field, he grabbed 17 catches which are the most in this year’s competition. However, speaking to Sports Tak, he assessed honestly his chances of getting into the men in the blue squad.

“I don’t deserve it right now.” – Riyan Parag

Parag clearly said that as of now, he does not deserve any National call-up as he failed to win games for his team. He said: “Winning matches (for my team). I did that in a couple of matches, but that’s not enough. If I can win six-seven matches for my team in a tournament only then I will be in the reckoning. Right now, even I won’t feel good if my name comes up in the probable (list) for the Indian team. I don’t deserve it right now. In the coming season, my confidence will rise if I can guide my team to more victories,”

This batter also shared that he is not happy with the way he batted throughout the tournament. “Definitely happy with my batting position. I am not happy with the way I have batted though. I want to own that 6-7 spot. If you look around, only MS Dhoni’s name will come to your mind as someone who has established the role of a finisher. Approaching that, I am trying to learn and hopefully will be able to implement all my experience from next year onwards,” Parag concluded.

Now, Riyan Parag will be seen playing for his home side Assam in the domestic circuit.
