Recently-sacked PCB chairperson, Ramiz Raja isn’t hesitating to make big statements. After his sacking, he expressed his concerns over political interference on the board. However, his critics replied by mentioning his appointment by former Pakistan PM Imran Khan. Also, the 1992 World Cup winner, Raja expressed his concerns about whether coaches such as Saqlain Mushtaq and Mohammad Yousuf will be sacked before their contract expires.

Once again, his critics mentioned how Raja sacked the likes of Waqar Younis and Misbah Ul Haq when they were the coaches of the national setup. In reply, Raja said Younis and Haq had already received their full payments even though their contracts were expiring in February last year. The former Pakistan skipper, Raja added that he made contracts in such a way that coaches don’t serve for three years.

“They received their full payments for two years. They were given full respect. As a chairman, it was my right to dismiss them. Even now, they are talking about removing Saqlain Mushtaq and replacing him with Mickey Arthur. I made contracts in such a way that I didn’t want the board to be left with a coaching setup for three years,” Ramiz said in an interview with Samaa TV.

It wasn’t easy for me to sack Waqar Younis and Misbah Ul Haq: Ramiz Raja

The 198-ODI veteran further added that it wasn’t easy for him to sack Younis and Haq. The former also mentioned that the team needed a change ahead of the 2021 20-20 World Cup.

“We had yearly contracts. They (Misbah and Waqar) would’ve left in January/February anyway. We brought a new management. It wasn’t easy for me. I’ve played with Waqar, I talked to him in detail. The CEO talked to Misbah. It obviously didn’t look good that the change took place with a week or 10 days before the T20 World Cup. But I had an idea that we could only go to a certain extent with them.
