The four-time champions of the Indian T20 League, Chennai are having a torrid time in the 15th edition of the tournament. They have lost all four of their matches in the tournament so far. Amidst Chennai’s horrendous run former Indian Head Coach and commentator have made a big statement on Chennai’s choice of captain after MS Dhoni stepped down from the role.

Notably, MS Dhoni has captained Chennai in all their campaigns in the tournament before the Indian T20 League 2022. In Dhoni’s reign, Chennai had been the most consistent team in the history of the tournament. They have played 9 finals under him and won the title 4 times. But surprising the fans of the team MSD stepped down from the role and handed over the responsibilities to Ravindra Jadeja just ahead of the 15th edition.

Under their new captain Ravindra Jadeja, Chennai is looking like a completely different team and nothing is clicking for them. While speaking about Chennai’s choice of handing over captaincy to Ravindra Jadeja, Ravi Shastri said – “I believe, a player like Jadeja should focus on his cricket. If Chennai think about it again, they should not have let Faf du Plessis go because he is a match-winner and played a lot. If Dhoni didn’t want to captain the side, then Faf should have become the captain and Jadeja should have played as a player. Because he can they play freely, no pressure of captaincy,” on ESPNcricinfo show ‘T20 Time Out.’

Meanwhile, Faf du Plessis was picked up by Bangalore for INR 7 Cr in the mega auction ahead of the Indian T20 League 2022, after Chennai decided not to retain him. Bangalore decided that Faf will lead the team as Virat Kohli stepped down from the role of the captaincy of the team. Under Du Plessis Bangalore is having a brilliant time and have won 3 matches of the 4 they have played till now in the tournament. Thus, Shastri feels that “things could have been different for Chennai,” if they did not let go of Du Plessis.
