Ahead of the Indian T20 League 2022. MS Dhoni left Chennai’s captaincy and handed it to Ravindra Jadeja. The latter led the team in eight games and the team managed to win only two. At this stage, Dhoni was handed back the captaincy to help the team from the must-win situation. However, the former champions failed to do so as they finished ninth in the table.

Meanwhile, a short while after Jadeja’s removal, it was rumored that he had a rift with the franchise post losing his captaincy job. The rumors started after Dhoni’s statement after the team’s win against Hyderabad on May 1 last year. He revealed that he was looking at Jadeja as captain in 2021. The wicketkeeper-batter added that he wanted Jadeja to be himself while leading the side.

“I think Jadeja knew last season he’d be captaining this year. For the first two games, I oversaw his work and let him be later. After that, I insisted he’d take his own decisions and responsibility for them. Once you become captain, it means a lot of demands come in. But it affected his mind as the tasks grew. I think captaincy burdened his prep and performances,” Dhoni had said after a game against Hyderabad on May 1, 2022.

Ravindra Jadeja is fine and happy with the team: Reports

Meanwhile, after the rumored rift, it was assumed that the all-rounder might leave the team. However, last November, the four-time winners decided to retain Jadeja among other players. Ahead of the upcoming 16th season, a franchise official said that everything is fine between them and Ravindra.

“Jaddu is fine, he is happy to be back with the team and is very keen to do well. He is looking forward to the season,” a franchise official told Cricbuzz on Saturday (March 25).
