 ‘RCB ko bus dil todne hi aata hai’- Fans teary eyed as RCB loose to GT by six wickets and fail to secure a playoff berth for IPL 2023

The Gujarat Titans and the Royal Challengers Bangalore locked horns at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium. The coin went the way of GT and they elected to bowl first. There was a lot of rain around before the start of the game. Faf du Plessis and Virat Kohli got RCB off to a good start as they had a 50-plus partnership when the powerplay was over. When it looked like RCB would seize the momentum, this is when GT struck back with three quick wickets.

Du Plessis was caught by Rahul Tewatia off Noor Ahmad for 28 off 19 balls with five fours. Glenn Maxwell could not get going as he was castled by Rashid Khan for just 11 off 5 balls with one four and one six. Mahipal Lomror was stumped by Wriddhiman Saha off Noor.  At 85-3, things seemed to going down the barrel for RCB. Then Michael Bracewell came in at number 5 and gave some much-needed impetus to the innings. The New Zealander cracked a quickfire 26 off 16 balls with five fours.

He was dismissed by Mohammed Shami and then, Dinesh Karthik followed soon. He was caught for a by Saha off Yash Dayal. GT had the upper hand in the game when RCB were 133-5. Then, Virat Kohli, who was batting well, decided to switch gears and stamp his authority in the match. The former RCB skipper started to hit boundaries at will. He kept putting the loose balls away and made his way to a well-crafted 101 off 61 balls with 13 fours and one six.

It was back-to-back hundreds for Kohli. He got the much-required support from Anuj Rawat.  The left-hander made a valuable quick-fire 23 off 15 balls with one four and one six to help RCB get to 197-5 in their 20 overs. GT, in the run chase, got off to a good start but they lost the early wicket for Saha for just 12. Then, Shubman Gill and Vijay Shankar put together a wonderful partnership of 123 runs. The match went on and Gill made a well-compiled 104 off 52 balls with five fours and eight sixes.

RCB regained some ground with the wickets of Shankar, Dasun Shanaka and David Miller. Then the match meandered on but Gill took GT home by six wickets. GT has reached the playoffs for the second time running.
