Real Madrid confirms Karim Benzema’s departure from the club after 14 seasons and 25 major titles
The club has officially announced that Karim Benzema will depart Real Madrid at the end of this current campaign. The 35-year-old will play his final game in the white shirt against Athletic Bilbao after a stellar career at the Santiago Bernabeu. Benzema’s contract ends at the end of this season, therefore he will now bid the team farewell in the final La Liga game of the year.
Because it has been said that a Saudi Arabian club has made him a hefty offer, there have been suspicions concerning his upcoming future. Los Blancos issued a statement confirming his departure from the team, albeit it is yet unclear what he will do next in his career.
Karim Benzema received a 2-year offer for €400 million from a Saudi Arabian club
“Real Madrid CF and our captain Karim Benzema have agreed to end his brilliant and unforgettable period as a player for our club. Real Madrid wants to show its gratitude and all its affection for who is already one of our greatest legends.
“Karim Benzema arrived at our club in 2009, at just 21 years of age, and has been a fundamental player in this golden age of our history. During the fourteen seasons in which he has defended our shield and our shirt, he has won 25 titles, a record number for Real Madrid: 5 European Cups, 5 Club World Cups, 4 European Super Cups, 4 Leagues, 3 Copas del Rey and 4 Spanish Super Cups,” the club said in an official statement.
Benzema allegedly received the same two-year, €400 million contract as Cristiano Ronaldo, who joined Al Nassr after leaving Manchester United, to move to Saudi Arabia in January, according to an ESPN report from earlier this week. The center-forward, who was expected to play for Madrid for one more season until June 2024, instead chose to accept a new challenge. On Sunday, June 4 at the Santiago Bernabeu Stadium against the Athletic Club, he will compete in his last match as a Madridista.
