“RECORD BREAKERS!!” – Twitter Goes Berserk After England’s Thrashing Win Over India In The Fifth Test Match At Edgbaston
The much-awaited fifth rescheduled Test match between India and England came to an end as England thrashed India by seven wickets. Joe Root and Jonny Bairstow, both played a gem of a knock while England was chasing the target of 378 runs at Edgebaston. Speaking about the match, India dealt with a massive blow as their regular skipper, Rohit Sharma got ruled out due to a Covid-19 infection on the eve of this match.
Hence, Jasprit Bumrah was named the captain and as he lost the toss, India was asked to bat first. However, India put up a mammoth score of 416 runs while batting first as Rishabh Pant and Ravindra Jadeja scored a century each in the first innings. They both put up a record-breaking partnership of 222 runs for the sixth wicket. In reply, England got bundled out for 284 runs only. Jonny Bairstow continued his dream run with the bat as he scored another century for England.
But, in the second innings, Indian batters failed to capitalize on the lead as they managed to score only 245 runs and set up a target of 378 runs for England. Only Cheteshwar Pujara and Rishabh pant managed to score a fifty each in that innings. But, England started their highest ever chase with some grace as both the English openers put up a hundred-run partnership. India pulled some momentum back after taking three quick wickets. But, former England Test captain, Joe Root, and Jonny Bairstow scored a hundred each as they put up an unbeaten partnership of 269 runs.
Hence, India lost their golden opportunity to win the Test series on English soil as England managed to level the series by winning this match. While Joe Root was named the player of the series for England as he scored 737 runs in nine innings at an average of 105.28.
