‘Remarkable journey’ – Twitter congratulates Suryakumar Yadav as he becomes World Number T20I batter

A few months back, India’s Suryakumar Yadav was set to become the World’s Number batter in T20I cricket. At that time, the Men In Blue were in the Caribbean Islands for the ODI and T20I series. However, before Yadav could get a chance, the team management decided to rest him for the fifth and last T20I against the West Indies.

After a while, it was Pakistan’s Mohammad Rizwan who overthrew his skipper Babar Azam from the top spot. Now, the duo’s side is dependent on other teams for them to qualify for the semis. Also, not to forget, they are yet to hit a half-century. On the other hand, Yadav has hit two fifties in the last three games. Notably, one of them came against a tough South African bowling attack on a tough surface in Perth.

His innings helped the 2007 winners reach a respectable total of 133/9 after being reduced to 49/5. Now, just before the ongoing Super 12 game between India and Bangladesh, the right-hander became the world’s number batter, dethroning Rizwan. Recently, the latter scored 49 runs in a game against the Netherlands.

Yadav batted like a number-one batter against Bangladesh

In the ongoing game against Bangladesh, the newly-anointed number one T20I batter scored 30 off just 16 balls and carried on the momentum provided by KL Rahul at the top. The latter came back to form after scoring 50 off 32 balls including three fours and four sixes. He was struggling in the initial phase of the game as the ball was moving around. However, he announced himself at the Adelaide Oval. Yadav carried on the good work by scoring a quick 30 runs. His innings had provided a good platform with Virat Kohli and Hardik Pandya batting at the crease. At the time of writing, India scored 119/3 in 14.1 overs.
