Rishabh Pant And Ravichandran Ashwin Fail In The Ultimate Test?
India is getting prepared for the fifth, rescheduled Test match starting from July 1, 2022. After having a four-day warm-up match against Leicestershire, India is ready to take on England for winning the historical series on English soil. However, the Indian camp dealt with a setback when their skipper, Rohit Sharma tested Covid-19 positive during the warm-up match.
On 29 June 2022, Indian head coach, Rahul Dravid talked to the media and said that Rohit Sharma is yet to be ruled out of the Test. As per many reports, Jasprit Bumrah is the front-runner in the captaincy race. But, according to the reports of Cricbuzz, two other players have also been considered for the captaincy role.
Rohit Sharma didn’t travel with the team to Birmingham
Reports of Cricbuzz suggested that current Indian captain, Rohit Sharma did not travel with the Team to Birmingham on Monday. Instead of that, he went to Warwickshire separately. Additionally, both Rishabh Pant and Ravichandran Ashwin were also discussed as the candidates for being a captain in the upcoming Test match. Even though they failed in the ultimate analysis.

Hence, reportedly, Jasprit Bumrah still remains the main man for being the captain if Rohit misses out on the Test ultimately. Speaking about the series, India is leading it at a margin of 2-1. This match was scheduled for last year. But, due to the outbreak of Covid-19, it got canceled. Hence, this match got rescheduled this year as, after this, a three-match ODI and a three-match T20I series are also scheduled in July.
The Indian side will look to perform well despite these setbacks as it will be a historical series win if they pull off. On the other side, England is coming off a thumping series win over New Zealand under their new captain, Ben Stokes, and new head coach, Brendon McCullam. They will also look to win this match for avoiding a series loss against India at home.
