Babar Azam-led Peshawar Zalmi are all set to face off against Shaheen Afridi’s Lahore Qalandars in Sunday’s PSL game. In a pre-game press conference, a journalist asked Babar Azam about the much-anticipated clash between the teams led by two of Pakistan’s most popular cricketing faces. Babar rather made a hilarious response sparking laughter in the room.

Here’s how the conversation unfolded between the reporters and Babar:

Reporter: Babar (Azam), sabse aap haske milte hain, lekin Shaheen Shah Afridi ke saath kal aapka Gaddafi Stadium mein mukabala hai (Babar, you usually have a smile when you meet people but you play Shaheen Shah Afridi at Gaddafi Stadium next)

Babar was quick to respond to the question which left everyone in splits in the conference room.

Babar: Ro kar milen unhain? Kya kare, nahi khele fir? Aap batayein (Should I cry and meet him, or should I not play? Please tell me)

‘Playing against Shaheen is a challenge’ – Babar Azam

Babar did make a witty reply. But, he was courteous enough to respectfully add a few words of praise for his national teammate. He mentioned that playing against Shaheen is always a challenge and it gives him immense confidence.

“Whether we play against Shaheen and Lahore, the effort is always to give the best. The kind of bowler that he is and the way he is bowling presently, everyone knows that he is one of Pakistan’s best bowlers. He is improving day by day. Playing against him is a challenge and also gives me confidence, since I am playing the best bowler. It is difficult at times. Sometimes I dominate, sometimes he does,” added Babar.

Babar Azam was released by Karachi Kings last season. Playing in a new outfit, the Peshawar Zalmi, Babar is the leading run-scorer of the PSL 2023 having accumulated 171 runs including 2 half centuries. However, Peshawar has had a mixed bag for a season winning two and losing two in the competition so far. Lahore Qalandars are currently sitting at the third position in the points table, one better than Zalmi. However, they have a game in hand and can really profit from the upcoming clash against Zalmi. Finally, Multan Sultans are the current leaders with 4 wins and a draw from five games.
