The Indian cricket team is getting geared up for the high-voltage Asia Cup 2023. Last Monday, the Indian cricket board picked 17 members who will be part of the tournament. The first game of the tournament for India is against Pakistan this Saturday before playing Nepal.

One name who missed the selection bus for the 2023 Asia Cup was Yuzvendra Chahal. The non-selection of the 33-year-old wrist spinner created lots of debate. The Indian selection panel was called out by both the fans and former cricketers alike.

Rohit Sharma breaks his silence on team selection –

Indian skipper Rohit Sharma will be leading the Indian team during the 2023 World Cup. The 36-year-old wasn’t picked for the 2011 tournament as MS Dhoni went in for Piyush Chawla ahead of the then 23-year-old batter.

Speaking about the team selection, Rohit Sharma said during a press conference, “While picking the best combination, there will be guys who will miss out for various reasons, and Rahul bhai (Dravid) and I have tried our best to explain to the players why they are not in the squad”

Rohit further said “It’s not like, I don’t like this person, so I am dropping him. Captaincy is not based on personal likes and dislikes. If anyone misses out, there is a reason for it. If you are the unlucky one, we can do nothing.”

The Indian captain has been undergoing mixed fortunes with the bat. Rohit scored an enthralling century during the ODI series against New Zealand earlier this year. Rohit Sharma though has faced criticism for the lack of consistency he has been showing with the bat.

The opening batter said, “I want to get into the phase I was in before the 2019 World Cup”. Rohit was referring to the World Cup held in England. Rohit Sharma had created a record for the most centuries in a single World Cup. The right-handed opener had nearly scored 650 runs during the tournament.

The Indian captain speaking of his form further said “I was in good shape, good mindset. I want to bring that back and I have time to do that. Trying to recollect what were the right things that I was doing before the 2019 World Cup as a cricketer and as a person. I want to revisit that thought process of mine personally”
