India dealt with a huge blow when their regular skipper, Rohit Sharma tested Covid-19 positive before the start of the fifth rescheduled Test match. Therefore, he went under the mandatory isolation period as Jasprit Bumrah was appointed as the captain of the side.

However, on day three of the match, good news came that Rohit Sharma has overcome the Covid scare and he is set to join the team for the limited-overs series. He was even seen in the nets, batting against Ravichandran Ashwin. The Indian Cricket Board also shared a video of his net session on their official Twitter account. But, as of now, Rohit Sharma is set to miss the first T20I on 7 July 2022 as per reports.

Rohit Sharma’s fitness and participation will be decided before the first T20I

Reports are suggesting that Rohit may find it tough to play a 4-hour highly intense T20I match. Hence, he might be dropped for the first match. Even, he needs to undergo mandatory cardiovascular tests which will decide Rohit’s fitness and participation in the first match of this T20I series.

Speaking about it, an official from the Indian Cricket Board said that he needs some time to recover fully. “See he had suffered from a bout of COVID. He needs time to recover. He has started training but will he play 1st match or not, it depends on his fitness. Coach and Rohit himself will take a call on the same. We are hopeful he should be ready.” he said.

After missing the Test match, Rohit Sharma was named as the captain for the upcoming T20I and ODI series against England in July. However, India picked up two different squads for three T20Is while a specific squad was chosen for all three ODIs.
