India skipper Rohit Sharma is yet to play a T20I game since the 20-20 World Cup 2022. Since then, due to tight schedules, he has been rested for a few series. In fact, the right-hander will play his first game after the ODI series against Bangladesh. During the series, the Mumbaikar injured his thumb and was ruled out of the rest of the series including two Tests.

The two-time World Championship winner was rested for the recently-concluded T20I series against Sri Lanka. He will return for the upcoming ODI series against the same opposition. Meanwhile, ahead of the series, the six-time Indian T20 League winner opened up on his future in the shortest format of the game. The 35-year-old said that the players will be managed before the Indian T20 League 2023. He added that he hasn’t given up on the format.

“We have only six T20Is, three are over. So we’ll manage, you know to look after those boys till ITL. Then we’ll see what happens after the ITL. But certainly, I’ve not decided to give up the format,” Rohit told reporters.

The India skipper further added that the players were made clear that the ongoing year will be the ODI World Cup year. Not to forget, the tournament will be played in October-November this year. Meanwhile, the Mumbai skipper in the biggest T20 League also maintained that some players can’t play all games.

“At the moment I think it was made clear in the past that it’s a 50-over World Cup year for us. And for some of the guys, it’s not possible to play all formats. If you look at the schedule, there were back-to-back matches, so we decided on just looking at some players’ workload that we wanted to make sure that they get enough break time and manage them. I definitely fall in that (category) as well,” Rohit added.
