Team India skipper, Rohit Sharma became the first batter in the history of Test cricket to score runs in double digits for a record 30th time in a row. This record was previously held by Sri Lanka legend, Mahela Jayawardene who had a record of doing this 29 times. The Men in Blue skipper surpassed the former Sri Lanka cricketer during Day 4 of the second Test match against West Indies in Queen’s Park Oval, Port of Spain, in Trinidad.

Rohit is popularly known as a white-ball specialist, but over the last few years, he has shown that he has the capability to excel in the longest format of the game as well. Let’s look at the last 30 Test innings of Rohit Sharma – 12, 161, 26, 66, 25*, 49, 34, 30, 36, 12*, 83, 21, 19, 59, 11, 127, 29, 15, 46, 120, 32, 31, 12, 12, 35, 15, 43, 103, 80, 57.

India declared their second innings after scoring 181 runs for the loss of two wickets. Rohit scored an aggressive fifty to give a positive start to India along with Yashashvi Jaiswal. They both together built up a partnership of 98 runs in just 11.5 overs before Rohit was dismissed after scoring 57 runs off 44 balls which included five fours and three sixes in his innings.

It was Virat bhai who took the initiative and told that I should go in: Ishan Kishan

India’s wicketkeeper, Ishan Kishan went on to score his maiden half-century in his only second Test match. He played an unbeaten knock of 52 runs from 34 balls with four fours and two sixes in his innings. He built an unbeaten partnership of 79 runs along with Shubman Gill, who played an unbeaten knock of 29 runs off 37 balls with hitting only a four in his innings.

“Was really special. I knew what the team needed from me. Everyone backed me. Virat backed me and told me go and play your game. Let’s hope we will finish the game tomorrow. It was Virat bhai who took the initiative and told that I should go in. There was a slow left-armer who was bowling. It was a good call for the team. Sometimes you need to take these calls. We had the plan that we will play 10-12 overs after the rain break and score 70-80 runs,” Kishan was quoted as saying after the end of play on day 4.

“We wanted a 370-380 target. I was at NCA before this. Pant was also there. He knows how I play. We have known each other since under-19 days. I also wanted someone to advise me and luckily he was there to tell me something about my bat positioning. There are so many senior players who keep talking to the bowlers. It should be a good game tomorrow. We need to hit the right areas and important to get early wickets. It was one of my dream to get into the whites. I just wanted to go in and hit every ball. Mostly thankful to my parents who have always supported me,” the left-hand batter asserted.
