Ahead of the start of the Indian T20 League 2023, all the captains gathered at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Gujarat for a photoshoot. However, what was surprising was the fact that Rohit Sharma wasn’t present there at the shoot. The fans didn’t like that and even expressed their frustration on the internet. However, a report from Times of India has now revealed that the Indian captain hasn’t been keeping well and he didn’t head to Gujarat to take care of his health.

The report, however, assured the fans that Sharma will be available for Mumbai’s first match against Bangalore on Sunday.

“He was unwell and thus could not travel to Ahmedabad for the pre-IPL captains’ meeting and photoshoot,” TOI said while quoting a source. However, the source ruled out the possibility of Rohit missing MI’s IPL 2023 opener against Royal Challengers Bangalore on Sunday. ” He is, however, likely to be available for MI’s opening game in IPL-2023 against Royal Challengers Bangalore on April 2,” the source added.

Mumbai franchise exhibited a horrendous show with bat and ball last season and finished at the bottom of the points table. They could only manage to muster 4 wins throughout the tournament.

However, this team knows how to comeback. Mumbai is the most successful franchise in the history of the Indian T20 League and one expect them to make a solid comeback in the upcoming season.

Sadly, Jasprit Bumrah won’t be available for the franchise this season due to injury. However, Jofra Archer’s return to the Indian T20 League would be big boost for them. Skipper Rohit Sharma had, earlier, mentioned that he would take rest in a few games between the tournament to manage his workload.

In his absence, Suryakumar Yadav is likely to lead the team. When asked about the prospect of resting Rohit Sharma from next edition of Indian T20 League, here’s what head coach Mark Boucher said,

“In regards to resting Rohit, he is the captain. Hopefully he gets into some good sort of form and I hope he doesn’t want to rest. But yeah, we all adapt to different situations. If I can get the best out of him as a captain and player, that will be great. If it means he wants to rest 1 or 2 games, then I will do that. Absolutely, no problem,” the former South Africa wicketkeeper said.
