The 50th game of the Indian T20 league 2022 turned out to be a memorable one for Delhi. They beat Hyderabad by 21 runs and thus, won their fifth game of this edition. In what turned out to be a fitting comeback story, it was David Warner who was the star of the match.

The opener showed no mercy on his former franchise as he scored an unbeaten 92 off 58 balls. He struck 12 fours and three sixes. Besides, he was well supported by Rovman Powell towards the end. The Windies batter scored a sensational 35-ball 67. He hit as many as three fours and six sixes.

As a matter of fact, he smashed 19 runs in the final over of the innings. It is to be noted that Warner was batting on 92 at the end of the 19th over, and had a chance to get to his century. Yet, it was Powell who faced all the six deliveries of the 20th over. However, the 28-year-old revealed that the Aussie batter wasn’t too bothered about getting to the three-figure mark. While revealing the conversation he had with Warner during the final over of the first innings, he drew light on the same.

“At the start of the over, I asked, ‘do you want a single to try and get a hundred?’ He (David Warner) said, ‘Listen, that is not how cricket is played. You should try to smack as far as you can,’ and I did that,” said Rovman Powell while speaking to Star Sports.

Despite not scoring a hundred, Warner did ensure that his team got to a massive total during the first innings. While they scored 207, it proved to be enough. Thus, Warner also went on to win the player of the match award. In the meanwhile, Powell spoke about batting at five during Delhi’s game against Hyderabad. He stated that he himself asked his skipper Rishabh Pant to promote him up the order.

“I had a conversation with Rishabh. He asked me where I want to bat. I said, just trust me and let me bat at no.5. Over the last year, my ability to play spin has increased, I play spin a lot better. So, I just told him to trust me at no.5, give me a chance to start,” he added.
