India had a very poor Asia Cup campaign in 2022 as they failed to qualify for the final. After having a good start in the group stage, they failed to win in the ‘Super Four’ round. Those losses crashed them out of the tournament. However, ahead of that tournament, India was one of the favourites to win it.

Even, seeing their T20I performance in 2022, fans were expecting India to be the favourites to win the upcoming 20-20 World Cup in Australia. But, after their dismal show in Asia Cup, questions have started to rise. Now, a former India pacer, Rudra Pratap Singh said that India will not start the 20-20 World Cup as a favourite after such a poor performance.

“India won’t go to the T20 World Cup as favourites.” – Rudra Pratap Singh

Speaking to India Cricket TV on 10 September 2022, this former India pacer said that India needs to do minimal changes to become favourites to win the 20-20 World Cup. He said: “After their performance in the Asia Cup, India won’t go to the T20 World Cup as favourites. If you really want to earn that trophy, you need to do minimal changes in the squad and back the 11-12 players in the upcoming games against Australia and South Africa. If you continue to shuffle, it will only cause more confusion.”

The former pacer also picked up his preferred squad for India in the upcoming World Cup. He also batted for the inclusion of Mohammed Shami and Kuldeep Yadav in the final squad of the 20-20 World Cup. He added: “I will pick Shami because the pace and bounce will help him bowl back of a length which is his strength. I have also added Kuldeep Yadav because even he can exploit the bounce factor in Australia. KL Rahul might not be in the XI but will definitely be a part of the squad.”

Rudra Pratap Singh’s predicted squad of 20-20 World Cup 2022:

Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Suryakumar Yadav, Rishabh Pant, Hardik Pandya, Dinesh Karthik, Axar Patel, Mohammad Shami, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Jasprit Bumrah, Arshdeep Singh, Yuzvendra Chahal, Kuldeep Yadav, KL Rahul, and Deepak Chahar.

Reserves: Deepak Hooda, Sanju Samson, and Ravichandran Ashwin.
